Announcement: One Sugar Grove Public Library District Trustee Position Open
Sugar Grove Public Library District is seeking dedicated resident of the District (Sugar Grove, Sugar Grove Township, part of Aurora and Montgomery) to fill vacancies on the Board of Trustees serving the remainder of a term expiring in May 2027. Of particular need are residents with professional experience in financial reporting, accounting, management, human resources, policy making, event and program planning, and community partnerships.This position is one of stewardship, service, advocacy and community building. Duties involve voting upon matters of governance including ordinances, advocacy for the Library, community input to Administration, financial oversight, strategic planning, and service on working committees that guide the Library. Trustees serve without compensation, and their civic service is gratefully acknowledged by the Library.
A candidate must be a registered voter, citizen of the United States, file an economic interest statement, complete required OMA and FOIA training (online) and complete an orientation meeting with the Library Director. Candidates will be interviewed prior to final selection by the full Board, then appointed by the current board to serve out the remainder of the term.

What does an Illinois Library Trustee do?
Illinois Libraries are governed by statutes and administrative rules set forth by the state of Illinois, including important statues such as the Library Records Confidentiality Act.
Sugar Grove is a Library District. We are a special taxing authority, and we do not fall under the Village of Sugar Grove or any other taxing body.
About
The Board of Trustees is composed of seven elected members serving staggering terms in the valuable role of stewardship and governance to the Sugar Grove Public Library District. Key functions of the Board include advocacy, governance, stewardship to the facility, fiscal responsibility, financial security and oversight. Board members serve with no compensation and regularly donate time and attention to serve the needs of patrons.
The Board hires and works in conjunction with the Library Director to serve the needs of Sugar Grove residents. "Our mission is to be a unique resource to offer open access to information that fosters a passion for reading, learning, and the exchange of ideas. As the heart of our community, we support democracy, citizenship, and the cultural growth of the Sugar Grove Public Library District."
The Board graciously welcomes visitors to public meetings held every fourth Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the general Board room. Agendas and minutes are posted to the website, government information bulletin board in the Library or are available in a informational binder that may be freely accessed by the public in the Library. Public comment is welcomed at every meeting, and additional written comments may be considered for inclusion to packets.
